Ajou University, established in 1973 under the motto of “Asia’s best university for the 21st century”, is a leading research university with 10 colleges in Korea. Located in Suwon, about 30km south of Seoul, Ajou has 14,000 students (9,000 undergraduate, 3,500 graduate, and 1,500 in other courses). The strength in Ajou’s academic programs and research lies in Engineering, IT, BT, NT, Medical Science, Business and International Studies. Ajou is widely recognized for its innovative international programs and strong support for international students and has collaborative partnership with over 200 universities in 58 countries. There is a wide range of international programs at Ajou including student and faculty exchanges, international summer school, Korean language program, etc. International students are taking courses offered in English by various majors. Today Ajou is welcoming about 750 international students a year.

Ajou is home to roughly 14,000 students across its 10 colleges. The majority of these are at undergraduate level, with around 4,000 studying at master’s level and 500 completing doctoral degrees.

Undergraduate programmes are offered through nine univeristy colleges: Engineering; Medicine; Business Administration; Information Technology; Humanities; Natural Sciences; Social Sciences; Nursing; and Law. Graduate programmes are run through nine schools: Business Administration; Industry; Professionals; Public Affairs; Education; Information and Communication; Information and Communication Technology; International Studies; and Law.

Research and development is central to the university’s mission, which cites its research strengths as Engineering, Information Technology, Medical Science, Business and International Studies.

Internationally, Ajou has collaborative partnerships with more than 200 universities in up to 60 countries. Adding to its global reach are a wide range of international programmes, including student and faculty exchanges, summer schools and Korean language classes. Courses for foreign students are taught in English and each year the university welcomes around 750 students from other countries.

There are four dormitories on campus. Two are exclusively for boys, one exclusively for girls, and one for both genders, which also houses foreign exchange students.

The guiding principles upon which the university operates are: respect for humans; seeking truth from facts; and one world, one family.

* Keeping over 2.0 of GPA and taking at least 12 credits is required.
* Rank will be evaluated by each unit. One is Engineering, IT and Natural sciences part and another is business school, humanities and social sciences part.

    ※ Should include the official contact information of the professors or supervisors. Please inform us their institution/organization (professional) email address. Private email address is NOT accepted.
  • Statement of Purpose (SOP)
  • Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) its equivalence
    – TOEFL above 80(IBT), IELTS above 5.5a
    ※ The Korean or English language ability requirement can be eased for Government Scholarship students, students from
    foreign universities which concluded the exchange agreement with Ajou University and students who are granted a
    special admission into Ajou university through the deliberation of the GSIS Admission Committee

The International Development and Cooperation (IDC) degree program combines the study of economic and political development in internationally, institutionally and bilaterally to give students a broad overview. The curriculum is multidisciplinary in nature, designed to acquaint students with the basic theories of economic development, overseas development assistance, international political economy, international institutionalism, and environmentally sustainable development practices. The program provides student the most effective tools for more effective practitioners in international development and assistance programs within government agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs), and international development agencies. The topics of the IDC program incorporates the dominant viewpoints of developed, developing and underdeveloped countries of the world. The course aims to explore a well-rounded view of developmental strategies that affect policies, implementations and effectiveness of the IDC practices.
The IDC program is divided into three parts : 1_ knowledge and information regarding the key motive power of IDC and Official Development Assistance(ODA) Perspectives, 2_ various IDC discourse such as development theories and their practical application cases, and 3_ exploration of contemporary politico-economic issues in the field of IDC. Finally, the program is designed for students seeking to work in national/ international public agencies, NGOs, NPOs, and governments dealing with IDC issues.

* The general studying area is opened 24 hours day throughout the year and the periodical room is opened from 09:00~21:00 during weekdays and 09:00~17:00 during weekends.
* At the periodical room, you can read books, journals and newspapers.
* Stacks are open in the library.
* For the students who like to watch movies, DVDs and VHS are ready on the 1st floor.

3. Cafeteria & Restaurants
: There are many places to eat on campus. Besides the dormitory cafeteria, there’s several eating places on the campus. Also there are small snack areas on the lst floor of Dasan Hall and Sungho Hall, and at the basement of Yulgok Hall.

4. PC labs on Campus
: There are many PC labs on campus, where you can use the computers for word processing, internet, and so on. Also, there is a PC lab in the 1st floor of dormitory where you will be placed. The PC labs are provided with the printer and you are required to bring your paper.

5. Post Office
: Letters, registered mail, package, and postcards can be sent through a postbox or post office. The post office can send letters, postcards, or packages overseas.

6. Health Care Center
: Ajou international Health Care Center provide total care of medical and communication service with multi languages including English.

7. Sports Facilities
: There is gymnasium and the cost for the health club is 30,000KRW for 3months. Also residents in Hwahong Hall (international dormitory) can use the gymnasium of the basement ofHwahong Hall and the fee can be changed with the notice.
