The University of Malaya Medical Programme (UMMP) is a five-year professional undergraduate medical degree offering you clinical experience, research opportunities and elective placements. On successful completion of the programme, you will be conferred the Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS) degree.
Our programme will provide you with current best practice in medical education, high teacher- student ratios and extensive educational support. The graduate of this MBBS Programme will be a medical practitioner who is responsive to the health needs of individuals, families and the society at large. The graduate will also be committed to improve the health care system at all levels.
The UMMP is centred on nurturing fresh insights through innovative educational approaches that foster interdisciplinary discovery. We also believe that by providing early and sustained clinical experience with essential communication skill give students confidence and the comfort level to excel in their duties during the clinical practice years and beyond.
To aid in the teaching and learning of our students, University Malaya has a large teaching hospital, University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). This teaching hospital has more than 1000 beds and more than 1 million patients annually, giving our students ample opportunities to practise the art of Medicine in a safe and supervised environment. UMMC is adjacent and physically connected to the Faculty of Medicine, creating a large complex dedicated to teaching, learning, research and health care.
The UMMP through all five years comprises of 4 broad themes: Basic and Clinical Sciences, Patient and Doctor, Population Medicine, and Personal and Professional Development. In Stages 1 and 2, students work through a number of System Blocks that cover all body systems from both basic science and clinical perspectives, with an emphasis on understanding the scientific foundations of clinical reasoning and clinical practice. In Stages 3 (Stage 3.1 and Stage 3.2) of the programme, students cover all major aspects of clinical medicine.
Obtained GCE “A” Levels with a minimum of AAA in 3 of the
following subjects:
Biology;
Chemistry;
Physics/Mathematics
OR
Obtained International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with a
minimum of 36 points with a minimum score of 6 in Higher Level
(HL) in two subjects and a minimum score of 6 in Standard Level
(SL) in one subject for the following subjects:
Biology;
Chemistry;
Physics/Mathematics
OR
Obtained qualifications with the relevant system/board
examination of the respective countries equivalent to GCE “A”
Levels or equivalent to CGPA 3.8 with high pass/distinction in the
following subjects:
Biology;
Chemistry;
Physics/Mathematics
OR
Attained an Undergraduate Science/ Allied Health Sciences
degree program from a recognized university with minimum CGPA
3.7 or equivalent.
AND
Obtained General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) or
equivalent with a minimum of grade A in these subjects:
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Mathematics/Additional Mathematics
Obtained ONE of the English Language Proficiency qualifications
as below:
Band 6.0 and above for IELTS (Academic); or
Score of 547 (PBT), 210 (CBT) or 78 (IBT) and above in TOEFL; or
Band 4 and above in MUET; or
Score 57 and above in PTE Academic; or
Grade C and above in English Language in A-Level, Univ. of
Cambridge; or
Grade C and above in English Language in O Level, Univ. of
Cambridge; or
Grade B and above in Cambridge Assessment English: First
(FCE)
As part of the entry requirements into the MBBS in Malaysia, applicants are required to sit for an entrance examination. Options include BMAT (Malaysia), BMAT (UK), UKCAT, MCAT, GAMSAT, or SAT. This process will ensure fairness in the selection of suitable applicants for this competitive MBBS course. BMAT (Malaysia) is a biomedical admission test usually conducted in February by the University of Malaya.
Interviews will usually be conducted in May for applicants who fulfill the entry requirements and are short-listed.
